Blog series: Stories of the Olive
The olive harvest on the Mediterranean has always been more than just a seasonal ritual — it is a celebration of culture, heritage, and the timeless bond between people and nature. At Maestral Resort & Casino, this tradition lives on through centuries-old olive trees and a deep respect for the land that defines life on the Adriatic coast.
Each olive tree tells a story. Some of those stories are known, while others remain hidden in the silence of centuries. Yet one truth stands clear: the olive grove surrounding Maestral Resort is one of the property’s greatest treasures and proudest symbols.
Nestled between sea and stone, these ancient olive trees — some over 1,600 years old — have withstood time, weather, and history itself. They are the heart and soul of Maestral, offering life, beauty, and a sense of continuity that defines this Mediterranean haven.
Guests often say that the grove feels alive — holding whispers of laughter, summer evenings, and quiet conversations beneath its branches. For those who work at Maestral, these trees represent something deeper: a connection to tradition, and a chance to give back to the land that gives so much.
That spirit is embodied in Maslina Fest, a now-beloved annual event that transforms the traditional olive harvest into a joyful competition among employees. What began as a simple gathering has grown into a day of laughter, teamwork, and gratitude — where colleagues become friends and tradition becomes celebration.
This October, 17 teams and over 60 participants filled the grove with energy, music, and smiles. In just 90 minutes, they harvested an impressive 700 kilograms of olives — the very fruit that will soon become Maestral’s signature olive oil, a cherished gift we share each year with our guests and partners.
The olive harvest may be over, but the story continues. In the coming weeks, we will follow the journey of our olives — from fruit to bottle — and share the next chapter of this timeless tradition.
